Skin Aging - What's It's Cause

By John Winsom

Who isn't concerned about aging? One of the most talked about subjects in the world is aging. What makes this so? Because we are a society that takes great pride in having a nice and attractive appearance.

Even though the aging process is basically the same for us all, it does affect all of us a little differently. Aging is a very natural process. It's as natural as life and death. With advanced age, our skin gets less firm. Lines and wrinkles begin to form, especially on the face.

Aging is natural and affects us all. There are things we do that can actually speed up the aging process. This is not what we want.

These are just a few of the things that can cause your skin to age faster than it should.

Even though sunshine is important to health in small doses, it can be very damaging to your skin in too high of amounts. Too much sun can lead to premature wrinkles and make you skin have the texture of leather. Too much sun is the leading cause of facial wrinkles.

Getting too much sun can not only darken the skin, but it can burn off the skin's natural protection. This allows harmful UV rays to damage our skin and ruin it's texture. Too much exposure to the sun can even cause skin cancer.

When you stay out in the sun too long without wearing sunscreen, your skin can start to sag and look like leather. While this in itself is bad, skin cancer is the worst. This is something we all want to avoid. You should always wear sunscreen If you'll be out in the sun for more than ten minutes.

If exposed to strong sunlight, you can wear a hat to protect your neck and face from overexposure. You can use SPF 20 if only outside for short periods. If you'll be out longer than this, wear something stronger like SPF 60.

A fast way to ruin your skin is by smoking. Smoke is loaded with toxic substances and is not only bad for your health but will make your skin look old. Smoking makes your skin dry and ages it quickly. Try not to smoke if possible. Also smoking uses up valuable vitamin C which your skin needs.

Second hand smoke can also lead to early skin aging. Smoking can really damage the skin. It may be as harmful as too much exposure to the sun!

Drinking Alcohol is terrible for the skin. It dilates the blood vessels in your body and increases the blood flow to the skins surface. Not only is drinking too much alcohol bad for your health, it's terrible for your skin. Stay away from it if possible.

This can cause your cheeks to get red and break blood vessels over time, resulting in a poor appearance. - 30246
